Sadio Mane helps Liverpool down West Ham

  • Liverpool handed major boost as star returns to training two weeks ahead of schedule

The result left them precariously perched above the relegation zone and sent Bilic into the global break with question marks hanging over his future.

The first goal left beleaguered boss Bilic furious as it came from a West Ham corner.

Klopp stated at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon that the forward could play 20-25 minutes off the bench at West Ham United this on Saturday.

The Hammers trailed 2-0 at the break after strikes from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip, before they managed to pull a goal back through Manuel Lanzini in the second half.

Salah would go on to add his second and the visitors' fourth shortly after to complete the rout, as Liverpool won by a three-goal margin for the third time in seven days. Mane played to the left and Roberto Firmino led the line, which resulted in Salah playing as number 10, theoretically bridging the gap between midfield and attack.

When Lanzini halved the deficit at the far post there was hope but 55 seconds later Oxlade-Chamberlain scored at the second attempt.

The in-form Andre Ayew came into this clash with three goals in his past two outings and he nearly added to that tally in the ninth minute.

Liverpool put the game beyond the Hammers in the 75th minute after Salah was picked out by Mane.

The Hammers dropped to 17th, with just a point separating them from the relegation zone.

David Moyes for West Ham?

Suprisingly from kick-off, Liverpool restored their two-goal advantage in the 56th minute when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain bundled in his rebound into the roof of the net for his first league goal for Liverpool.

Bilic at least has a ready-made Plan B. At half-time, Andy Carroll was thrown on for Fernandes in a 4-4-2 and straight from the kick-off, West Ham launched the ball towards him. Of course we're going to discuss this defeat because it's not the first one.

However, speaking to BT Sport, Klopp explained that the Dutchman had a good night and the swelling had "disappeared" by the time the players convened this morning. Ayew this time crossed to Lanzini at the back post, and Lanzini controlled the ball expertly on his chest before poking a smart finish past Simon Mignolet.
