  • KCSO sends a reminder about Halloween safety

This month, if your kids bring in one full, sandwich-sized bag of candy to one of these locations, they will get a $5 Target gift card.

Based on a survey featuring over 2,000 Americans from halloweenexpress.com, the majority of states in the country don't like candy corn and licorice comes in second place as the least desired.

Treats for Troops' collection program includes local businesses, such as a dental office.

All donated candy will then be sent in care packages to USA service members stationed overseas via Operation Gratitude, said Tracie Ellinger, the office manager for Kool Smiles.

"This is an opportunity for children to not only learn about monitoring their candy and also about savings as far as financial savings, but you can go beyond this holiday and beyond the costumes and the fun and think about our community and troops overseas", said Pamela Weitzel, dental concierge at Frankel Dentistry.

Shah does the candy buyback through Operation Shoe Box, an organization that sends care packages to our service men and women overseas.

Candy can be turned in from November 1-11 from Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. For every pound of candy a child brings in, they will get $1 and be entered into a drawing for various prizes.

Surf City Dental is holding its seventh annual candy buy-back event.
