The Philadelphia 76ers could be dealing with another long-term injury to a rookie lottery pick with Markelle Fultz now out indefinitely.

Last week, the team said Fultz was expected to miss three games, which would have put him on track to return for Thursday's (AEDT) home game against the Hawks.

Fultz consulted with several shoulder specialists.

Per Tom Moore of the Bucks County Courier Times, the point guard was diagnosed with "soreness and scapular muscle imbalance in his right shoulder".

The 76ers decided to make Fultz the No. 1 overall selection in the 2017 #NBA Draft, taking him over a host of other players with high ceilings. Fultz will continue physiotherapy treatment and be reevaluated by Dr. Kibler in roughly three weeks.

Fultz was initially ruled out for just three games as of Wednesday, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Fultz has been hampered by his shoulder all season. Fultz never looked right to begin the season and it's not a surprise to see Philly take a cautious route with the No. 1 pick.

Center Joel Embiid missed his first two seasons with a foot injury.

The best thing for Fultz would be to stop playing until he's fully healthy.

The 76ers traded with the Boston Celtics to get the overall No. 1 pick and draft Fultz.
