In March, the United States announced restrictions on laptops on flights originating from 10 airports in eight countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Turkey.
Korean Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer Walter Cho said, "We are asking customers to show up at the airport early ..."
"The new directive requires passenger pre-screening interviews at the check-in counter for originating passengers and at the boarding gate for transfer and transit passengers".
The new heightened security measures will affect all flights into the US.
Even as airlines have no choice but to comply with the new rules, industry bodies like the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) have raised concerns about the impact of such measures. The airline said passengers would also have short security interviews and it has advised travelers to arrive three hours before departure.
"The security measures affect all individuals, worldwide passengers and U.S. citizens, travelling to the United States from a last point of departure global location", said Lisa Farbstein, a spokeswoman for the TSA.
Economy passengers on Lufthansa's Swiss airline have been asked to check in at least 90 minutes before departure.
Coming soon, is the ban on electronic devices being allowed to travel in checked-in luggage.
In a statement, Virgin Atlantic said: "We work closely with United States authorities to ensure the safety and security of our flights, and are aware of the additional measures - however, we do not anticipate any disruption to customers".
Travelers on all non-stop flights to the United States, including those from Singapore, should be prepared for tighter security checks that may include being questioned at check-in and boarding. "Unilateral measures announced without any prior consultation".
The new screening process is meant to help avoid bans on certain electronics, like laptops, in the cabin.
USA authorities in June also ordered increased security around aircraft and in passenger areas, and other places where travelers can be cleared by US officials before they depart and ordered enhanced screening of personal electronic devices.
