  • India vs New Zealand: Pitch tampering allegations on curator Salgaoncar barricades 2nd ODI in Pune

This comes after reports emerged that Salgaoncar had agreed to "tamper" the pitch after some television reporters, posed as bookies, approached him.

India are now trailing 0-1 in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, having slumped to a shocking six-wicket defeat in the opening match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Pune: After a disastrous start, New Zealand managed to reach 149 at the loss of five wickets in 35 overs in the second match of ODI series against India at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium here on Wednesday.

The pitch is to be inspected by ICC referee Chris Broad, along with umpires, while a BCCI official told ESPN the match will take place on an adjacent pitch if needed.

Salgaoncar is not new to controversy, in February this year, the Pune wicket came under scanner after Australia defeated India in the opening Test. Following the match, ICC rated this pitch as "poor".

Opener Dhawan top-scored with 68 and Karthik remained not out on 64 down the order as the hosts reached the 231-run victory target with four overs to spare at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. "Rest assured, if anyone found guilty, strict action will be taken", said MCA president Abhay Apte in response to the report. BCCI added that they will stick to their zero tolerance policy towards corruption.

"We will look into the matter". I am not yet aware of the full thing. I will attend to it immediately and take strictest action.

Indian bowlers, especially new ball colleagues Bhuvneshwar Kumar (three for 45) and Jaspreet Bumrah, laid the foundation for their comprehensive victory by restricting New Zealand to 230 for nine after the tourists opted to bat.
