Police detectives in New York City and London are taking a fresh look into sexual assault allegations against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein now that some 30 women have accused him of inappropriate conduct.

British actress Romola Garai tells the Guardian that she felt "violated" when Weinstein auditioned her as an 18-year-old, saying that he had answered the door to his hotel room in a bathrobe.

The New York Times publishes a story detailing decades of allegations of sexual harassment against Harvey Weinstein. He said he assumed they involved consensual affairs because Harvey Weinstein had insinuated that he was a philanderer.

Revelations that the Hollywood mogul sexually harassed women for almost three decades prompted three of the company's nine board members to resign, according to The New York Times which broke the news in a bombshell report earlier this week.

"Some of which ended up with him screaming at me calling me a c** em *Spectre, said she had to fight Weinstein off".

"I was also terrified that this sort of thing had happened to so many women I know but no one had said anything because of fear". "I thought he was going to fire me", she told the paper. About a week later she was told by a Weinstein assistant she didn't get the job because she was an actor.

"A few years later he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting".

Since then, the story has developed continuously, with a large number of women coming forward to claim they were sexually harassed by Weinstein - allegations he has denied. And I got the part although I didn't give him what he wanted, but I didn't say anything. Police had her make a secret recording, in which Weinstein could be heard repeatedly insisting that she come into his room, which she refused to do.

NY detectives already investigated Weinstein once, in 2015, when an Italian model said the studio executive grabbed her breasts and groped her. Detectives set up a sting where they recorded a conversation between the woman and Weinstein while he tried to persuade her to come into his hotel room.

Weinstein's lawyer Lisa Bloom announces her resignation, saying she understand that "Mr Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement".

Cohen's letter to the board did not describe the contents of Harvey Weinstein's file, nor did it address whether Weinstein had entered into private settlements with women who complained of misconduct.

She explained that the producer, with whom she has worked on several movies, has never harmed her.

"These actions point to a pattern of behavior that merits only the clearest and most unequivocal condemnation", festival president Pierre Lescure and general delegate Thierry Fremaux wrote in a statement.

Police in NY tell the BBC they are looking to speak to an individual regarding an allegation against Weinstein dating from 2004.
