What's more, it's a completely remote-controlled GT-R-renamed the GT-R/C-as demonstrated by Nissan racing driver Jann Mardenborough, who drove the auto around the Silverstone racing circuit from the passenger seat of a helicopter circling above.

This specially designed GT-R was equipped with six computers mounted in the rear of the vehicle to update the controls at up to 100 times a second, while four robots operate the steering, transmission, brakes and throttle. However, if Mardenborough got it wrong, they had two operators on different radio frequencies who could remotely apply the GT-R/C's ABS brakes and cut power to the engine should Mardenborough lose control.

Mardenborough put the GT-R/C through its paces around the Silverstone national circuit, by controlling it from the cockpit of a Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter, which was specially permitted to operate at a low altitude.

Silverstone, Northamptonshire - Nissan found a unique way to celebrating the release of Gran Turismo Sport, out in Europe next week, and its 20 years of involvement in the series; it built the ultimate radio-control auto. Six computers in the trunk translated inputs from the PS4 controller and actuated the GT-R/C's steering, brakes, throttle, and transmission.

The only other gadget for Jann was a LCD display mounted the helicopter's cockpit to show the car's speed.

The one-off Nissan GT-R/C - with a top speed of 196mph - can be controlled by just a PlayStation 4 gamepad. There were six computers in the vehicle that were able to update the controls 100 times per seconds.

In 2011 he was the victor of the GT Academy, Nissan's driver discovery and development programme. With this, Mardenborough was able to post a fastest lap of 1:17.47 at the circuit, with an average speed of 122km/h. The wireless operation has a primary control range of one kilometer. A Racelogic VBox Motorsport sensor relays speed data to the "remote" driver.

"This was once-in-a-lifetime, truly epic stuff". In the meantime, you can check out the GT-R stunt below.

After this demonstration run, Nissan will tour the GT-R/C around schools in the United Kingdom to promote STEM education.
