The South Korean Foreign Ministry said the upcoming meeting would prepare for U.S. President Donald Trump's scheduled visit to South Korea in November, while consulting on major issues of the two countries, including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s nuclear program.

The bilateral training mission between the U.S. B-1B bombers and South Korean F-15K fighter jets on Tuesday night followed a September 23 mission in which USA bombers and fighter escorts used pre-dawn hours to fly to the farthest point of the border between North and South Korea by any US aircraft this century.

On Tuesday, a South Korean lawmaker said North Korean hackers had reportedly stolen a large cache of military documents from his country, including a wartime contingency plans drawn up by the USA and South Korea. Pyongyang has historically conducted tests on noteworthy anniversaries and holidays such as a missile test on July 4 for America's Independence Day.

The cybersecurity company FireEye says in a new report to private clients, obtained exclusively by NBC News, that hackers linked to North Korea recently targeted USA electric power companies with spearphishing emails.

The U.S. Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) said in a statement this was the first nighttime American B-1 bomber drill conducted with the two U.S. allies in the region.

And North Korea has denied this, and accused South Korea of "fabricating" the claims.

Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will hold strategic talks with visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan on October 18 in Seoul, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.

Documents including wartime contingency plans put together with the U.S. were stolen from South Korea's defence ministry. Lee, who didn't specify his sources, said the plans allegedly stolen by the North include operations for tracking the movement of the North's leadership, isolating their hideouts, executing air assaults and follow-up actions for securing and eliminating targets, which would obviously include North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Information on South Korea's special forces was also reportedly accessed, as well as important details on significant power plants and military facilities in the South.

While US Secretary of Defense James Mattis reiterated this week that diplomacy along with worldwide economic sanctions would remain the leading element of US strategy towards blunting North Korea, military options were being prepared.
