Snapchat Context Cards offer up more information about the Snaps you see

11 October, 2017, 00:24 | Author: Darrell Baldwin

Snapchat is introducing a new feature that will transform the experience of using the apps at a fundamental level.

The feature can also help you take simple actions such as booking a ride with Uber or reserving a table through Bookatable or Open Table.

Lots of people share their location with Snapchat when they take pictures or videos.

These include Snaps tagged with the white, venue-specific, geofilters or that have been submitted to the firm's public "our story" collections, which appear in snap map or search.

Context Cards were produced with the help of Vurb, a mobile search company acquired by the Veince-based Snap Inc.in 2016 for over $100 million, the company said. They're called 'Context Cards, ' and they're new ways to find out more info about any Snap shared by users, providing access to things like restaurant reviews, reservations, Uber and Lyft ride hailing, contact information and more.

The Context Cards displayed vary depending on the type of venue and the details available about the location. We've also integrated Stories into Context Cards, making it easy to see more Snaps from the places that interest you.

Not all of the services and information will display at once for every location, but Snap says the idea is to create a personalized feed that's relevant to what each user might need at the time.

Snap declined to disclose the financial terms of the deals with the Context Cards partners, but presumably the company has some kind of revenue-sharing agreements with them. That could include maps, menus, hours of operation and customer reviews and ratings.

You can download Snapchat from the App Store for free.
