Referring to the ongoing probe by the NIA on funding to militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh said the action has put hurdle in the flow of funds to the militants and their morale was hit badly.

"I will live up to your expectations, I will not let you down", he said while offering a vote of thanks at a function where the headquarters of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was inaugurated by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The minister said terrorism was a major threat to many countries today but noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the topic on the world stage and "succeeded" in bringing most countries on board the fight against terror.

Singh said investigating "militant activities" is a tough job. In 95 per cent of its cases, the accused get conviction, he said. He even flagged the issue of circulation of fake Indian currency, describing it as "oxygen for terrorism". While appreciating the role of the NIA in probing terror cases, the minister claimed it was a challenging task as almost 95 per cent of its cases were resulting in conviction.

Singh also said India has taken remarkable steps to highlight the menace of terrorism in the global forums and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has succeeded in bringing worldwide community on board on the issue. PM Narendra Modi, he added, had succeeded in bringing the worldwide community on board over the issue. These cases cover the entire spectrum of terrorism related challenges relevant to India and have involved investigative efforts in 26 States and UTs.

Of the 166 cases, 63 cases pertain to "jihadi" terrorism, 25 to terrorist acts by North East insurgents, 41 to cases of terror financing and fake currency, 13 to cases involving Left-wing extremism while the remaining 24 cases relate to other miscellaneous terrorist acts or gangs, he said.

In eight years since its inception the NIA has earned people's confidence and trust by conducting fair and credible investigations.
