Steele, who has two wins on the Tour, recorded five birdies in a six-hole stretch from number 13 to number 18.

John Daly, the two-time major victor who won his first PGA Tour Champions title in May, closed with a 79 to tie for 72nd at 5 over.

"I had a really good ball-striking day".

"(There) was a brutal wind today", Steele said, according to AFP. After all that, it was no surprise when the tour said Wednesday that Thomas had been voted the PGA Tour player of the year.

But Duncan was able to convert a ten foot putt after a 175-yard tee shot on the par-three 11th to remain in pole position. It was his first win in 141 starts on the PGA Tour dating to his rookie season in 2011.

Phil Mickelson and Chesson Hadley finished three shots behind.

3 - It was a hard final round for Tour rookie Tyler Duncan.

"I expected to score a little bit better today, but I had some good chances today", said Mickelson, who had six birdies, one bogey and a double-bogey.

Duncan is now 9/2 joint favourite alongside Chesson Hadley, who shot 70 to move within a stroke of the lead.

Back-to-back birdies on the ninth and 10th were cancelled out by dropped shots on both the eighth and 15th.

Third-round leader Tyler Duncan finished in a tie for fifth at 11 under with Graham DeLaet after firing a Sunday 3-over 75.

Sangmoon Bae carded a one-over 73 on his return to the PGA Tour after serving military service in his native South Korea, dropping four shots in a row but scoring birdies on the 12th and 18th.
