'Only One Thing Will Work' Against North Korea

  • North Korea should have been handled 25 years ago: Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday said "only one thing will work" in dealing with North Korea after previous administrations had talked to Pyongyang without results. "Sorry, but only one thing will work!" he continued. Mulvaney said it was the first he had heard about the tweet, but said every bit of it was true. "I feel like this is a similar situation, they want to do something in North Korea because it is a sort of wag the dog or kill the messenger and they are kind of trying to force-fit it".

The interview made headlines all across the Pacific Rim, and remains the leading story on the South Korean Yonhap News Agency website as of this writing.

It's no secret that #Donald Trump often makes comments that come off as reckless or offensive to many people.

"We are not looking to the total annihilation of a country, namely North Korea", Mattis said. The prevailing analysis is that Trump was bluffing, employing a strategy of calculated ambiguity to send a preemptive message amid talk of a possible ICBM launch or other provocation around the Workers' Party anniversary on October 10. Trump was engaged in a heated war of words with Kim Jong-Un, the leader of North Korea. He tweeted about it again, this time decrying 25 years of U.S. foreign policy in dealing with the perceived North Korean threat. Less than a week after he dismissed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's diplomatic efforts in the region as fruitless, Trump fired off a series of tweets that seemed to suggest the only option left to curtail the North Korean nuclear threat is military action. The Asian country for long has made a mockery of the United States diplomacy.

Trump while talking to journalists that this is the calm before the storm.

Commenting on a Trump statement that the United States might withdraw from a nuclear deal with Iran, Peskov said such a move would have "negative consequences".

"Stand by your phones", Yong Suk Lee, deputy assistant director of the CIA's Korea Mission Center, said he had told his staff. Kim Jong Un also visited the mausoleum where his father and grandfather, "eternal president" Kim Il Sung, lie in state.
