  • Will deal with Democrats on health care, Trump says

Republican Sen. Thad Cochran of MS has been recovering in MS from what his office described Wednesday as "a urological issue".

"But we don't have the time, because it's Friday", Trump said in reference to Senate rules forcing Republicans to need 60 votes to repeal Obamacare starting October 1.

Speaking to reporters before departing Washington, DC, for Indiana, Trump repeated many times that one senator was "in the hospital" when explaining why a vote on healthcare legislation would have to wait. "I'm not hospitalized, but am recuperating at home in MS and look forward to returning to work soon", Cochran tweeted Wednesday afternoon. "Thanks for the well-wishes", he tweeted. Cochran. "I'm not hospitalized, but am recuperating at home in MS and look forward to returning to work soon".

However, the US President remains defiant on healthcare, calling for an end to the "filibuster rule" - a procedure which allows debate over a bill to be extended, thereby delaying the vote on it.

Congress could vote to renew the health care bill's 50-vote protection next year. This means any bill not backed by any Democrats can not pass with more than two GOP senators also voting against it. With only 52 Republican Senate members, the leadership and the bill's authors yanked the vote. "We have the votes, but reconciliation is the disaster", Trump said. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.), would take place "sometime in the beginning" of 2018, but before next year's November midterm elections. Now, we get the vice president who by the way is coming to Alabama today to campaign strongly for Luther, so you know, we don't have much of a margin.

"They could try it again and again because they're going to fail again and again", Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a brief interview.

The executive order Trump is eyeing would allow individuals to purchase insurance across state lines through so-called health associations. No less an authority than Bill Cassidy stated flatly on Tuesday that "we don't have the votes" with John McCain, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Rand Paul all publicly opposed.

Lindsay Graham (R-SC), said of his recent focus on health care: "Well, I've been doing it for about a month".
