  • Sri Lanka bat first against Pakistan as Haris Sohail debuts

Pakistan had the advantage in the first session with leg-spinner Shah taking two wickets, dismissing left-hander Lahiru Thirimanne for his 150th Test wicket.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 Test series whitewash at the hands of India.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne was the top scorer with 93 and added 100 for the fourth wicket with skipper Dinesh Chandimal (60) to lift their team from a precarious 61-3 at lunch.

At the start, Karunaratne had a solid opening stand of 34 with Kaushal Silva before Hasan provided Pakistan with the breakthrough.

However, when he was just seven runs away from his century, disaster struck as Karunaratne was run out by Mohammad Abbas.

Pakistan lost the toss in this game and had to field first.

Prior to the trophy unveiling, the newly appointed captain of Pakistan Test side Sarfraz Ahmed requested the Sri Lankan team to visit Pakistan for the matches. Pakistan will step into a new Test era without retired batting greats Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq.

Sri Lanka meanwhile have had plenty of Test cricket this summer although the results will not be something they want to dwell on.

After working so hard for his runs Karunaratne trudged off wondering what might have been and Dickwella was fortunate not to follow him when Pakistan failed with a review for lbw after Yasir got one to turn sharply.

Azhar was in doubt for the first Test after suffering a knee injury but he has since responded well to treatment, while Yasir Shah will lead the spin attack in a squad with five fast bowlers.
