That makes for a lot of questions that still need to be answered because the character of "Venom" originated from an alien costume worn by Spider-Man that eventually bonded with a rival reporter named Eddie Brock before becoming one of the most vile villains in the webslinger's own rogues gallery. That film was initially expected to spawn a solo Venom movie, but the planned spinoff never materialized. After toying with the idea of kicking off a cinematic universe with The Sinister Six, Sony turned to Venom instead and booked genre stalwart Tom Hardy in the lead role. The upcoming R-rated Venom will certainly be one to watch out for now that it has added the stellar acting skills of Michelle Williams, and possibly #SheVenom to the mix. We learned back in August that Emmy Award victor Riz Ahmed is also reportedly in talks to join the cast of Venom. She first aided Spider-Man in apprehending her ex-husband.

Sony and Marvel Studios reached a deal in February 2015 to allow Spider-Man - a character to which Sony bought the rights to - to be introduced into the MCU, with Tom Holland cast in the role and appearing as Spidey in a cameo capacity in "Captain America: Civil War".

If this is true, then she may be playing Anne Weying, Eddie Brock's wife in the Marvel Comics Universe. This role feels weird for Williams, as she's already getting Oscar Buzz for Ridley Scott's All The Money In the World, is supposedly great in Todd Haynes' Wonderstruck, and hasn't been in a big studio picture since Oz: The Great and the Powerful (which is, admittedly, fun). Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. THR suggests that Ruben Fleischer, best known for his work on Zombieland (he also made 30 Minutes or Less). Venom is reportedly meant to be an R-rated, sci-fi and horror take on the comic book villain.

The movie is set to hit theatres on 5 October, 2018. It will go into production this fall.
