In her address to the U.N. General Assembly in NY, on Thursday, she said, "I have come here just after seeing the hungry, distressed and hopeless Rohingya from Myanmar who took shelter in Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh".

"The security troops continue searching for remaining Hindu people around the places of the pits", said a statement posted on army chief Min Aung Hlaing's Facebook page yesterday, blaming Rohingya militants for the killings. In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government said Indian intelligence agencies suspect Rohingya Muslims in India are in touch with Pakistan-based militant groups.

The decision came days after Aung San Suu Kyi's televised address, where she invited diplomats to visit the troubled state and speak to Muslim residents who have stayed amid the ongoing exodus of more than 420,000 Rohingyas.

"Their situation remains desperate, and we risk a dramatic deterioration if aid is not rapidly stepped up", he said.

The violence in Rakhine State and the refugee exodus is the biggest crisis the government of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has faced since it came to power last year in a transition from almost 50 years of military rule.

Filippo Grandi said the global community must step up aid to Bangladesh if the south Asian nation is to be able to help the 430,000 people who have recently fled the violence.

UNICEF estimates that an "unprecedented" 60 percent of new refugees in Bangladesh are children.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has lambasted Myanmar for launching a Buddhist-led terror campaign against the Rohingya Muslims in the west of the country, while slamming the worldwide community for failing to act against the ongoing "genocide" in the region.

Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine have been subject to systematic persecution and violence at the hands of the military and Buddhist mobs for decades.

Myanmar's Army said on Sunday that a mass grave of 28 Hindus had been discovered in Rakhine state.

More than 436,000 refugees have crossed the border from Rakhine since 25 August when a military crackdown was launched following attacks by Rohingya militants, according to United Nations figures on Monday. The camps also face dire shortages of food and medicine in what has quickly become one of the world's largest refugee settlements.

Over the past month, thousands of Rohingya have fled from the brutal army-led crackdown across the border in Rakhine.

Amnesty International has initiated an online campaign and petition calling for people's support to stop India's plan to deport thousands of Rohingya refugees living across India.
