  • Uber call for sit-down after London strips operating license

Uber may lose its cab operator license in as many as 40 towns and cities across the UK.

In October 2016 Uber lost a landmark employment tribunal in the United Kingdom which ruled drivers should be classed as workers rather than being self-employed.

A source close to TfL told the paper that talks with Uber were a possibility and the move was "encouraging".

Speaking to Sky News, the shadow home secretary backed the decision not to renew the taxi-hailing company's licence in London.

The TfL rejected Uber's application on the basis that the company was not "fit and proper" to hold a private vehicle hire operator licence after expiry of its current licence on September 30.

The regulator cited failures to report serious criminal offences, conduct sufficient background checks on drivers and other safety issues.

"If this decision stands, it will put more than 40,000 licensed drivers out of work and deprive Londoners of a convenient and affordable form of transport".

A petition organized by Uber against London's decision not to renew its operating license has gathered 500,000 signatures, little more than 24 hours after the decision was announced, a website monitoring its progress showed on Saturday.

"A blanket ban will cause massive inconvenience to millions of Londoners, all the while showing that the mayor of London is closed to business and innovation", he said.

Summing up the game, he claimed the result was unfair despite acknowledging a string of saves from Labour keeper Mr Perkins "It was a good match, I think the fact that we lost 6-0 and our goalkeeper was Man of the match probably says a lot about the play", Mr Kinnock said.

For now, Uber will continue to operate as the company appeals the ban by TfL, which itself is chaired by London's mayor Sadiq Khan.

The conciliatory attitude isn't completely unheard of, but it does suggest that Uber's change of leadership might be having an effect on the company's once antagonistic approach.

Uber counted 3.5 million active users in London in the past three months.

In a statement to media, Tom Elvidge, Uber London's GM has expressed the concern about Uber drivers in London.

Consumers on social media were not so happy. It succeeded in reversing regulatory decisions in London and in NY in 2015.

Looks like things are taking a turn for the worse for Uber.

Like all of you, I'm hugely disappointed in the decision by London's Mayor and Transport for London. Looking to bring a sense of maturity and wisdom to Uber, the board unanimously voted Khosrowshahi, who was serving as the chief executive at travel company Expedia, to replace Kalanick as the new CEO.
