  • BBC Has Created A New Audio Drama For Google Home And Amazon Echo

Dubbed the Google Home Mini, the new smart speaker will be powered by Google Assistant, the company's smart agent, but it will cost $49 and be about the same size as a hockey puck, according to Droid Life. Unlike previous models of Snapchat Spectacles and Google Glass, Amazon will remove the camera taking the confidentiality worries into consideration. It could be controlled by Alexa-enabled Echo products, and show the video feed on Amazon's Echo Show screen (above).

The leaks paint a picture of a company doubling down on its biggest tech success since the launch of the Kindle.

"Amazon's secretive Lab 126 product development team has been given the task of studying the smart-home market to see what other devices might make sense for the company to build", the Financial Times report read. That would make them much more useful in a vehicle or on the street, especially if they can be incorporated into comfortable, daily-worn eyeglasses. "They also use them frequently for information, like asking about the weather or sports scores, as well as setting timers and alarms".

Besides the smart glasses, the tech giant is also developing a home security camera system. It also has the added benefit of making Google's smart speaker look even more like a little Dalek.

The Echo was launched in the USA in November 2014, and was slowly rolled out to the United Kingdom and Germany over the next two years. It will bring its Alexa voice assistant smart glasses to the market that is really going to be an awesome experience for all of us. Google's attempts to create a market for its Glass hardware repeatedly ran into problems of privacy and desirability, to such an extent that the term "glasshole" was coined to describe their wearers. The eyeglasses and security products are supposedly coming by the end of the year, presumably in time for Christmas.
