Ram Trucks Recalled for Fire Risk

  • Fiat Chrysler is recalling almost half a million Ram heavy-duty pickups and medium-duty trucks because their water pumps could be defective

The recall includes a total of around 494,000 Pick-up trucks from the Ram brand with model years from 2013 to 2017.

Sort of ironic that a water pump can cause a fire, isn't it?

The recall is limited to vehicles equipped with optional eight-passenger seating.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 443,712 Ram pickup trucks in the United States for faulty water pumps that can potentially catch fire, the company said Tuesday. It affects an estimated 443,712 trucks in the USA, about 46,220 vehicles in Canada and another 4,485 outside North America, the company said. FCA says it has stopped using those water pumps.

No injuries have been reported, but owners will be notified and can get a replacement at any dealer location. The scope of any potential fire is apparently wide.

"Compromised water-pump function may activate a warning light in an affected vehicle's instrument cluster". Ram is also preparing to launch its next-generation 1500 pickup that will debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit with a new high-tech interior.

Owners will receive a notice from Fiat Chrysler when service is available. Dealerships will inspect the water pump and replace it, if needed.
