The Commission is reviewing its Google Shopping decision in light of the ECJ's Intel ruling, according to Reuters. Sentenced in June to a record fine by Brussels for abuse of dominant position, Google has filed an application for cancellation, a-t-we learned on Monday 11 September.

Google had been given 90 days to stop the favouritism or face a penalty of up to 5% of the average daily turnover of its parent company Alphabet. The deadline for making those changes is at the end of this month.

In an interview with AFP, Europe's anti-trust chief Margrethe Vestager last week said some of that proposal "pointed in the very right direction", but could only be judged once in effect.

Google has appealed the multi-billion pound fine issued by the European Union for the alleged abuse of its dominant position in the search engine market.

If you're not familiar with Google Shopping, it's that graphical bar that shows up any time you search for a product.

Google has filed a legal appeal against a record-breaking fine handed down by the European Commission this summer for anti-competitive behavior relating to the operation of its product search comparison service, now known as Google Shopping. The top result receives about 35 per cent of all the clicks. Normal results still show up underneath Google Shopping, but it still takes up nearly half of the screen.

The EU Court of Justice (ECJ) ordered a lower tribunal last week to re-examine US chipmaker Intel's appeal against a 1.06 billion euro fine, a rare setback for the Commission.
