Jurgen Klopp welcomes new Liverpool FC signing on first day at Melwood

  • Liverpool's English defender Joe Gomez warm up ahead of the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield in Liverpool north west England on August

The midfielder secured his switch to Anfield on transfer deadline day but only started training with the club on Wednesday owing to the worldwide break.

And the former Southampton kid, 24, admits it was the prospect of working with Klopp that made up his mind.

The Reds new no. 21 could make his debut for Klopp at the Etihad Stadium against fellow title rivals Manchester City with both sides still unbeaten in the league going into Saturday's midday fixture.

New Liverpool signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has arrived at the club - and received a hug from manager Jurgen Klopp.

"It was interesting watching him for England in the last two games". "I've had all the players here and we speak about today but they all had their weaknesses, as well".

"That is massive and that is definitely a big plus when you are looking to progress and have that relationship with the manager.

But, sometimes, it opens the door for some younger players like [Reiss] Nelson or Joe Willock, or players who are in behind and get an opportunity that they wouldn't get".

Oxlade-Chamberlain arrives at the club not as a finished product, but as a player with a lot of growth still left in him.

Oxlade-Chamberlain got first hand of experience of the quality of the current Liverpool side as he was part of the sorry Arsenal team that lost 4-0 at Anfield before the worldwide break.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has played in a right wing-back role recently for Arsenal but is also capable of playing in central midfield and on the wing, and Henderson believes he will succeed in whatever position he is picked in.

That is definitely inspirational for me.

"First of all, what he's achieved, you respect that straight away and how much he knows about the game, and then all his extra attributes: his relationships with the players and how he pushes you, encourages you and what he demands from you, that's like a bonus".

Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for Liverpool on deadline day and now Arsene Wenger has spoken about the deal for the first time. Cazorla is out until the new year, at least; Wenger did not name him in his 25-man Premier League squad.
