Same as it ever was: Osweiler happily returns as Broncos backup QB

Following Denver's 24-10 win in Super Bowl 50, Osweiler signed his infamous $72 million contract with the Houston Texans.

But Osweiler played poorly, got benched and didn't get along with coach Bill O'Brien, so the Texans traded him and a second-round draft pick to the Browns in March.

The Denver Broncos have officially signed quarterback Brock Osweiler to their 53-man roster.

The Browns then held on to Osweiler for roughly five months before informing him that he would be released on Friday. Per numerous confirmed reports, Osweiler is signing with the Broncos a day after being dumped by the Cleveland Browns. On Saturday, Elway said the Broncos would welcome Osweiler back "with open arms". But given his experience in Mike McCoy's offense, it wouldn't be all that surprising if Osweiler holds onto the backup job even when Lynch is healthy enough to return.

Depending on how long Lynch takes to recuperate, Osweiler has the time on work on that in the coming months. As for Kaepernick, he might not even be good enough to start in the National Football League, and people are upset Osweiler went back to his old team. Osweiler's deal with the Broncos is pending a physical on Monday.

He now returns with the team that drafted him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Osweiler went on to start the final six games of the regular season while Manning dealt with a foot injury.

On Monday, Osweiler was made available to the Denver media, and expressed his excitement to be back with his old franchise.

"We were going to go with a veteran quarterback and Brock made the most sense for us". But Osweiler's role for now is to back up Trevor Siemian. He already knew exactly where to go and when to be there.

Kessler started eight games last season, including one against the Steelers, and went 0-8. "We'll show him that and give him a little love".

"I don't think many people could have seen this situation taking place, but I will say I'm beyond excited that it did take place".
