A union cabinet reshuffle appeared imminent with skill development minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy resigning on Thursday night amid speculation that some more ministers may quit ahead of the exercise expected before Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves for China on Sunday.

Ms. Bharti has been asked to quit ostensibly on the grounds of failing health.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to give a big shake-up to his Cabinet on Saturday.

Rudy is expected to be given an organisational assignment in the BJP, sources close to him said. BJP general secretary (organisation) Ramlal also joined the meeting later.

BJP President Amit Shah had met several senior ministers on Thursday morning.

Apart from the three senior leaders, reports claim Union Ministers Sanjeev Balyan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Kalraj Mishra and Giriraj Singh are also submitted their resignations.




AIADMK leader and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai met Shah on Thursday, leading to speculation that the party might become part of the Union Council of Minister.

Pandey has already been appointed the President of Bharatiya Janata Party's Uttar Pradesh unit. Sources say that in the major reshuffle, Nitin Gadkari is likely to get Railways while Suresh Prabhu may be moved to the Environment ministry.

According to TV reports, Union Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to give up the defence portfolio, which he was heading after the resignation of Manohar Parrikar in March.

Textiles Minister Smriti Irani is holding additional charge of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, while Rural Development Minister Narendra Tomar has additional charge of the Urban Development Ministry, after Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu resigned from his ministerial responsibilities to take up the high office. Maurya, along with the UP CM and three other ministers, will contest the polls for the Legislative Council.

Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan is holding additional charge of the Environment Ministry following the death of Anil Madhav Dave in May.

The election in Gujarat is due at the end of this year and the party will soon launch its poll slogan "Garaje Gujarat".
