  • Man Dead After Running Into Fire At 'Burning Man' Festival

Know as one of the most unique festivals in the world, people from around the world often travel to Black Rock Desert in Nevada to take part in it.

Authorities told RadarOnline.com that he was in a "critical condition" following the horrific incident on Saturday night.

Allen said the man ran through two-layers of security officers at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday during the Man Burn event at the counterculture festival.

According to The Review Journal, "His severe burns were treated on the scene before being airlifted to the University of California, Davis, the closest burn treatment center".

But crowds were horrified when one reveller made a beeline for the giant wooden effigy and was engulfed by the flames, Daily Mail reports.

The 41-year-old collapsed among the embers despite the efforts of emergency workers to tackle him as he approached the "Man Burn".

Perhaps ironically, the bonfire at the Burning Man festival reflecting the culmination of nine days of revelry, free love, expression and artistic and pagan like ritual was Mitchell's own personal sacrifice to the gods of ritual.

The tragic news has undoubtedly affected every attendee on the playa, and Burning Man is doing its best to keep it together while providing helpful resources/support to anyone who needs it.

About 70,000 people are attending the art and music celebration in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, about 100 miles north of Reno. The Tohakum 2 fire grew to 88,621 acres on Sunday morning and is 28 percent contained. This year's festival ends on Monday.
