The BRICS Summit began here on Monday with a group photograph of leaders of the five countries and was preceded by a warm handshake between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who received the leaders of Brazil, Russia and South Africa ahead of the restricted meeting of the grouping.

"We are really excited to meet him".

Sudhir Mittoo, General Manager of Xiamen's Tandoori Indian Restaurant, told ANI: "We are honored to be given the task to serve the Prime Minister and his high-level delegation". "It is like a life-time achievement for us", said another delighted Indian woman. China hosts the group's annual summit September 3-5 in Xiamen.

The Prime Minister had earlier said that he was looking forward to productive discussions and positive outcomes during the multilateral forum.

Chinese envoy to India Luo Zhaohui "expressed his hope that China and India could open a new chapter in the development of bilateral relations taking the forthcoming 9th BRICS summit as an opportunity", the State-run Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying. Moreover, after the end of the summit on Tuesday, he will be visiting Myanmar, which will also be his first trip to the eastern neighbor, since he took charge as the PM of India in the year 2014. Underlining the significance of BRICS, PM Modi noted that it has important contributions in addressing global challenges and upholding world peace and security.

Furthermore, it's being reported that the Prime Minister will also raise the issue of terrorism during the summit and how it affects the BRICS nations.
