Uber has selected a CEO

  • Uber Said to Choose Expedia Chief Dara Khosrowshahi as Its New CEO

One main candidate was Jeff Immelt, the former CEO of GE, who reportedly had the support of Kalanick and his faction.

Uber now is being run by a 14-person committee of executives but has several top positions open that won't be filled until a CEO is hired.

Since then, Uber launched an internal investigation led by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, whose extensive recommendations included a board overhaul (which is weighted heavily toward Uber's founders) and in-depth review of the company's human resources practices.

It looks like the battle over hiring Meg Whitman as the next CEO of Uber isn't entirely over.

Two Uber stockholders are trying to prove that Benchmark Capital, the investor that pushed for the ouster of founder Travis Kalanick as CEO and is now suing him for fraud, leaked information about Uber before all that started in a bid to take control of the ride-hailing giant. The company will hear from Immelt and an unnamed "dark-horse candidate" who will both present their strategy and vision for the future of the ride-hailing company.

Uber declined to comment. Meg Whitman, chief executive of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, had also been a leading candidate, according to sources close to the process.

The Iranian-American businessman came to the United States as a child in 1978 with his parents following the Iranian Revolution.

Well, it's Khosrowshahi, if he says yes, that is - so now we can all get back to the season finale of Game of Thrones.

In recent months, the company faced negative attention regarding its work culture, which has been linked to Kalanick's leadership.

Uber is the most highly-valued startup Silicon Valley has produced over the past decade, and it is expected to move toward a massive public stock offering in the coming year or so.

He was among a number of executives said to be under consideration for the Uber post. That committee is trying to change the company's culture so it's better behaved, a hard task without a top leader.

Uber's board was widely expected to be prepared for a vote finalizing its punishing search for a new CEO to replace Travis Kalanick, who resigned earlier this year amid a storm of allegations he oversaw a widespread culture of sexual harassment. Should Benchmark prevails in its suit, it could curtail Kalanick's involvement with the company and remove him from the board altogether.
