21st Century Fox, owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, said the channel was being withdrawn as it was not commercially viable and that the decision was not related to Fox's takeover bid for Sky.

"We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the U.K. Sky's customers can still enjoy a wide range of dedicated national and worldwide news channels".

The US company said it had decided "it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the UK", citing the fact it draws an average of 2,000 viewers a day.

Media magnate Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox now owns a 39.14% stake in Sky Plc, as well as owning Fox News in the USA.

21st Century Fox had already controlled 39 percent of Sky, according to THR, before embarking on this more ambitious merger.

For a year, Fox News has had to deal with a massive sexual harassment allegations that escalated under the network's founding chief executive Roger Ailes, who died in May less than a year from his ouster over the matter. But it also said it had found evidence of "significant failings" at Fox News.

But the Murdoch family have piled the pressure on the Secretary of State, saying her treatment of their bid for Sky will prove a test case for how far Britain is "open for business".

But, figures from the Broadcaster's Audience Research Board (BARB) suggest that Fox News' average United Kingdom daily viewing figures were almost 60,000 per day.

The takeover bid comes just years after Mr Murdoch's last attempt at taking over the business through News Corporation in 2011. However, Bradley and Ofcom's "fit and proper" ruling was seen as a major win for 20th Century Fox.

Fox said in a statement the decision was made because the channel has very little viewership and is not a money-maker for Sky.
