This is the final event of the regular season, with golfers aiming for top 125 spots in points to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Stenson said the Wyndham was the first of his 20 professional victories in which he didn't put his driver in the bag all week, instead hitting fairway woods and long irons off the tees.

Just as important as the birdies was the fact he didn't tally a single bogey on the back nine after posting two during a stretch of inconsistent play on the front.

The American youngster was tipped by Coley at 80/1 each-way in his pre-tournament preview but he's now just 6/1 after a third-round 66 ensured he would enter the final round in a three-way tie for second along with Webb Simpson (7/2) and Kevin Na (6/1).

"It's all about how you finish, I guess", Stenson said. His backside birdies came on Nos. 13, 15, 16 and 17. He kept his cool though and secured the par he needed for the victory.

Only a win or second place would have done for Padraig Harrington but having finished on level par after three days the Dubliner was cut with Power.

"I thought I had a 2-shot cushion when I made the birdie on 17, and we were a bt behind, so I didn't hear or see anything on 18", Stenson said. "I did enough good things to produce that 22-under and yeah, pick up that momentum and confidence that a win gives you".

Stenson began the day in second place overall and kept himself firmly in contention with a round of 66, dropping a shot on the 18th but managing five birdies. "I started with a birdie at the first and that got me going", Stenson said. Schniederjans stayed the closest to Stenson thanks to birdies on 17 and 18. Hat's off to him - he had a great finish, too.

"It was anyone's tournament on the back nine", Stenson said.

Stenson's prior record at Sedgefield was remarkably sparse. That series features the players ranked 125 to 200 in the FedEx standings and the top 75 on the Web.com Tour money list. Richy Werenski, who lost in a playoff at the Barracuda Championship two weeks ago, moved up to No. 122 in the FedExCup to earn a chance at keeping his card.

"I'm just very pleased with how I closed out this week". "He's a little anxious to get out and start getting some air time I think next week already". You know, most PGA players, I have to brag, because don't nail the celebration, but Billy Horschel and I did a lot of choreography work beforehand and nailed it, did the right high fives, the caddies did the right high fives.
