And with Crystal Palace taking on Liverpool yesterday, much of the talk surrounded Jurgen Klopp's side.

But the visitors missed the best chance of the match shortly after the break as former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke blazed a shot over the bar from six yards out.

The Scottish full-back reportedly took a little while to get used to J├╝rgen Klopp's training methods and high-octane style of play but if his performance against Palace is anything to go by, then he'll be the next Roberto Carlos when he does completely adapt.

"It was a hard job".

"We really had the plan to not make spaces as big as Liverpool want as they are strong - especially if you lose it in transition, they are so risky". We had moments in the first half but had to be more patient because they were deep. It was a nice goal and we deserved it a lot.

"(In the) Second half we did it better. Sadio Mane once again proved how crucial he is to the level of success. "We wanted to make it really tight for them and wait for our chances".

Mane's goal came after a loose touch from Luka Milivojevic was blocked into his path inside the penalty area, leaving goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey - who had been excellent throughout - with no chance of making a save.

Liverpool looked far more solid against Palace in their 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon, albeit against a weak attack spearheaded by Christian Benteke, and Klopp believes that his backline deserve more credit.

"At times they were frustrated but so were we and it was important we stuck together, which we did".

"It was hard. We could have played a little clearer in the first half".

"I've been concentrating on playing over 90 minutes, being focused and never losing concentration, being alert and playing the way I know".

"I am happy with the spirit, not the result, but we can build from here". In 15 minutes we lost the game at Selhurst Park and we were 95 minutes very concentrated and [with] one unlucky touch we conceded the goal.
