  • Ezekiel Elliott Suspended For Violating NFL's Personal Conduct Policy

The NFL took a very long time investigating Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, but the league has finally reached a decision on how to handle his case. The City Attorney's Office in Columbus, Ohio, declined to press charges against Elliott past year, citing conflicting witness statements that included text messages sent by Thompson to a friend asking the woman to lie about Elliott attacking her and information from witnesses who heard Thompson tell Elliott that she would ruin his life.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Elliott intends to file an appeal of his suspension, and a hearing must be scheduled within 10 days of the appeal's being filed. The policy gave Commissioner Roger Goodell authority to suspend players for at least six games in domestic cases, with or without a conviction. Any ruling would be considered binding.

If the suspension remains in place, Elliott would miss games against the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers - a group that includes four likely playoff contenders.

Elliott, the Cowboys' No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, led the league in rushing yards (1,631) and rushing yards per game (108.7) as a rookie last season.

Over the course of the previous year, the league conducted an extensive investigation. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the NFL's warning was contained in a letter sent to Elliott where he was told that any more violations "may result in your suspension or potential banishment". But, regardless, it sounds like Elliott could be looking at a six-game ban.

Arizona will host the Cowboys in Week 3 on Monday Night Football in their home opener.

Elliott's made headlines for all the wrong reasons this offseason - he was caught exposing a woman's bare breast at a St. Patrick's Day parade and was accused of attacking a man in a Dallas bar in July.
