  • Annual meteor shower to peak this weekend

Earth passes through the Comet Swift-Tuttle's path between July 17 and August 24 and our planet passes through the dustiest, most dense area on Saturday, which allows viewers to see the most meteors in the shortest time, Stunder explained.

A special meteor shower that you should be able to see without any special equipment will light up the sky in a few days time.

The Perseid Meteor Shower seen over The Scorhill Stone Circle in Dartmoor, DevonWhen is the next meteor shower in the UK?

The peak time for the shower is expected on Friday and Saturday night, according to Space.com.

Earth is set to once again pass through the dust of the Swift-Tuttle comet, sparking the annual Perseid meteor shower.

It's all eyes on the skies as the Perseid meteor shower comes to Cornwall. Look just east of north to see the source area of the meteors.

Whetting your appetite for cosmic backyard adventure, the Perseid meteors will peak this weekend, but to see them successfully, two ingredients are required: cloudless heavens and patience. You may find ample meteors before moonrise, but perhaps a handful after the moon's brightness washes away all but the brilliant ones.

However, NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke believes the Perseids will be a little more hard to see than expected. Hendricks said the Saturday night sky, though cloudy and possibly stormy at first, should clear up by midnight.

The moon will be more than half-full, in a so-called gibbous phase, which means its light will spoil stargazers' view in a similar way to that of urban light pollution. The moon is about three-quarters full and its light may block out some of meteors, but despite that there should still be a pretty good showing. It happens every year between the middle of June and the start of September.

But don't despair. "T$3 he good news is that the Perseids are rich in fireballs; otherwise the moon would really mess with them", Cooke tells Lewin. Hence, they rarely reach the Earth and when they do, it is only small parts that no one realises, Sheikh Salman said.

For those interested in catching the celestial event, Mr Chee recommended places such as Changi Beach, West Coast Beach and Bishan Park, where there are better views of the night sky.

To watch it, head to a dark location and look northeast beginning at about 11 p.m. Saturday.
