  • A policeman stands guard at the scene after a blast in Lahore Pakistan

At least 20 people were injured after an explosion in Lahore's Band Road in Pakistan on Monday night, The Express Tribune reported.

The Dawn quoted eyewitnesses, as saying that it was a powerful blast which damaged, partially or heavily, more than 100 vehicles, such as cars, mini-trucks and motorcycles parked at the stand.

No terror group has claimed the responsibility for the blast.

Officials said a huge cache of explosives had been stored in the truck.

The injured have been moved to a nearby hospital, 12 of whom were released following a basic first aid, however, four people are said to be critical.

"The explosives were in a truck loaded with fruit", said to AFP Abdullah Khan Sumbal, a senior official of the local government of Lahore, a metropolis of six million inhabitants located in the north-east of Pakistan.

Bomb blasts by militants are common in Pakistan, especially in tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.

Investigators believe the truck was transporting the explosives somewhere else to be used in an act of terrorism. The blast resulted in a crater, about seven-feet deep, at the site. "After a couple of minutes when I gained my senses, I saw some people injured", Hanif said.

"Yesterday's blast left one dead, whose body was recovered from rubble of a nearby collapsed house".

The incident has raised security concerns ahead of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's planned rally to Lahore from Islamabad via the GT Road tomorrow.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has asked for a report from Capital City Police Officer Amin Wains.
