Trump also claimed that his support base is becoming a more tight-knit group due to both negative press-the "Fake News Russian collusion story"-as well as what the president touts as successes, such as the surging stock market and his sweeping deregulation".

Trump tapped out a string of Twitter comments from his working vacation at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, deriding the surveys as "phony Fake News polling".

Trump tweeted Monday that he would be heading to NY for meetings.

A majority of registered voters (53 per cent) now say they are mostly pessimistic about the next few years of Trump's time in office. "Look at rallies in [Pennsylvania], Iowa, Ohio and West Virginia".

A new poll from Firehouse Strategies and 0ptimus shows that President Donald Trump's base appears to be shrinking in swing states that were key to Trump's victory last November.

Last week's Quinnipiac University poll showed that 61 percent of Americans view Trump's White House performance unfavorably and 33 percent favorably, the lowest ever standing for a US leader in his first months in the White House.

"Hard to believe that with 24/7 #Fake News on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, NYTIMES & WAPO, the Trump base is getting stronger!" he said in one of his morning tweets.

Meanwhile, Trump's job approval among Republican voters has dipped to 79 percent, the Quinnipiac poll found.

Trump is doing even worse with a key demographic segment that propelled him into office: white voters without a college degree.

This drop in support is particularly high among Republicans with an nearly 10 percent drop in strongly favorable views of the president among GOP likely voters. The president insists he is "working hard" and not at all on vacation. He also reiterated personal attacks on Democratic Sen.

"His approval rating among Republicans and conservatives and Trump voters is down slightly", she said on ABC's "This Week With George Stephanopoulos". Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., after the lawmaker was on CNN saying special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russian Federation "must be pursued".
