  • Special prosecutor Robert Mueller asks White House for documents on Flynn

Allegations that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was paid by the Turkish government during the waning days of the 2016 presidential campaign are being investigated by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who has requested documents regarding Flynn from the White House.

"Though not a formal subpoena, the document request is the first known instance of Mr. Mueller's team asking the White House to hand over records", said the Times, which cited unnamed people close to the investigation for the report.

United States media has reported that Mueller is also said to be investigating Trump's financial records unrelated to Russian Federation or the election.

Several american newspapers have announced on Friday that Mr. Mueller had recently formed a grand jury, which could lead to criminal prosecution. Investigators and prosecutors use grand juries to examine evidence, question witnesses and subpoena documents to determine if a crime has been committed. It has been noted by the president, the Trump of her duties as national security adviser just a few weeks after his appointment, because he had not realized exactly how of the contacts he had had with Russian officials.

Investigators have also begun questioning witnesses about possible secret payments Flynn received from the Turkish government during the final months of the 2016 campaign, according to the Times.

But Mueller is reportedly looking into business dealings of Trump and his associates and whether Trump obstructed justice by firing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

In addition, according to the american media, Mr. Mueller would have started to examine the financial records of Mr. Trump's non-related to Russian Federation or the election. Trump has publicly stated in the past that he believes Mueller should restrict his investigation on Russia's involvement in the election and not expand into his or his associates' finances.
