Mo Farah will, like Usain Bolt, bring the curtain down on his illustrious track career at the world championships with the ambition of double golden finish. He celebrated on the track, walking a lap with his four kids, the youngest carried in his arms.

They stacked the numbers against him and roughed up 34-year-old Farah, who twice nearly stumbled to the ground on the last of the 25 laps.

This was a special night for the Londoner.

There was no denying Mo Farah. "It felt like they were in a training camp together, how they were working to together".

The trio come up against Mo Farah, whose dominance over the distance and the shorter 5,000m race over the last six years, has left pundits opined that this will be a race for silver.

But there was no stopping him, the capacity crowd screaming him home once again.

Four-time Olympic champion Farah will now aim to complete a triple-double at the World Championships when he competes in the 5,000 metres.

"I get emotional talking about it, but I owe it to the people in London, I owe it to the people in Great Britain and to have so many people supporting you, keeping you going, it makes the difference". This was never going to be an easy race, and nothing could be taken for granted. "But I just had to be mentally stronger and think I didn't work this hard for nothing".

"But what a way to end my career in London". The Ethiopians and the Kenyans will be a threat, but in all honesty you can forget his rivals. Is that all you got?

On Friday, there was constant pressure from the rest of the pack, especially from the Kenyans and Ugandans, who as usual, tried to disturb Farah's consistency during the race. "Yes, 2012 kicked it all off but tonight they really took it to him and made it a tough race and he handled it".

He said: "That was a special moment for me".

There was heartbreak for two American stars in preliminary action as long jump 2016 Olympic champion Jeff Henderson and 2012 pole vasult victor Jenn Suhr went out in qualifying.

On Friday, the noise levels were close to the same and Farah knew how to let it push him to an unprecedented 10th straight global long-distance title.

"As the World Championships start in London, British Athletics and the sport in general have converged on the same thorny thought - what exactly will the next era look like?"

"That was very bad, I stumbled coming out of the blocks".

The heats start on Wednesday, with the final on Saturday.

In one of the most competitive events at these championships, British record holder Muir ran a controlled race to come through her heat, with both Judd and McDonald producing personal bests as the big medal contenders - Faith Kipyegon, Caster Semenya and Genzebe Dibaba - underlined their threat.

Meanwhile, Holly Bradshaw reached the pole vault final but Nick Percy missed out in the discus.
