Arun Jaitley meets kin of slain RSS worker in Kerala

07 August, 2017, 00:41 | Author: Priscilla Morrison

Amid increasing number of lynching cases involving RSS workers in the state, 34-year-old Rajesh was killed last week allegedly by a gang with links to Kerala's ruling party CPI (M).

"The kinds of wounds inflicted on Rajesh would have even embarrassed the terrorists", Jaitley said.

The minister also slammed double-standards adopted by critics of the BJP on the issue of political violence in Kerala. "The houses of our workers are being attacked and quite a few them are getting injured in the attacks", said Jaitley.

Union Minister Arun Jaitley landed in Kerala Sunday morning, where he was felicitated by the state party leader.

Saying that the Union Home Minister adopts one position while another Minister and BJP leadership take a contrary stand, the CPI-M said: "This clearly shows that the BJP-RSS leaders are not keen to see peace is restored and there are no political clashes". A reconciliation meeting held in Kannur on Saturday saw the CPI (M) and BJP-RSS leaders resolving to advise the cadres to renounce violence. "The workers of Kerala are not alone, the whole nation is with you", he told the grieving family, while blaming the Left-ruled state government of perpetrating violence in Kerala. I assure our karyakartas and victims that the party will stand strongly behind them.

On a day when Union finance minister Arun Jaitley visited the family of a murdered RSS worker, the CPM staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan on Sunday, which was attended by family members of party workers killed in political violence. "All these people who are sitting here have lost their near and dear ones to BJP and RSS workers". Even the RSS threat to force the centre to dismiss the LDF government has evoked only ridicule from various corners.

After a spate of political violence, State Governor P Sathasivam had summoned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and state police chief Loknath Behra to ascertain the action taken by the government.

AK Ramya, whose husband, Sreejan Babu is battling for his life after he was attacked by RSS workers, has written an open letter to Jaitley, asking if he would also visit them, The News Minute reported.

Although not declared a political murder, police arrested 16 RSS workers in connection with the killing of a teenager called Ananthu Ashokan at Cherthala.
