China demands immediate withdrawal of Indian troops

"What India has done not only severely violates China's territorial sovereignty but also poses a grave challenge to regional peace and stability and the global order, which will not be tolerated by any sovereign state", Geng said. Asked about China's statement that India has reduced the number of its troops from 400 to 40 by the end of July in Doklam area, Gopal Baglay, spokesperson for the MEA, did not elaborate, saying "these are operational matters". "India considers that peace and tranquillity in the India-China border areas is an important pre-requisite for smooth development of our bilateral relations with China", New Delhi's foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

The expert said that China will "inform" India before the "operation" begins. Both sides have been mobilising troops in recent weeks near the border areas. Indeed, on June 18, the very day that Indian troops interceded on the Doklam Plateau, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump vowed, following a White House meeting, to further expand the Indo-US "global strategic partnership".

Beijing says Doklam is located in Tibet and that the border dispute between China and Bhutan has nothing to do with India.

China, on the other hand, has said that India should show willingness for peace by deeds.

Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Sushma Swaraj on Thursday said in the Rajya Sabha that India has taken efforts to ease the standoff with China. "If the Modi government refuses to stop, it will push its country into a war that India has no power to control", it went on.

The Foreign Ministry has lodged repeated representations to India over its trespass across this defined sector of the boundary, but Indian troops have remained in the Donglang area.

Indian analysts said the road threatens India's security as it brings China closer to Chicken's Neck. On Friday, Ma said Chinese businessmen and companies were interested in not only continuing but increasing investment in India, especially in the eastern sector - West Bengal and the North-East states. Never before has the Indian Army confronted Chinese troops on territory to which New Delhi makes no claim, acting instead in the name of a third country.

A commentary by the state-run news agency Xinhua on Thursday night also warned that India should not "misinterpret China's restraint".

"The standoff has not been resolved because China and India see the incident from different perspectives".

"The Chinese armed forces have also shown a high level of restraint with an eye to the general bilateral relations and the regional peace and stability".
