Hassan Rouhani vows to end Iran's isolation despite new sanctions

A handout picture released by the official website of the Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei shows him (L) giving his official seal of approval during the swearing in ceremony of President Hassan Rouhani (R) to serve his second term, as deputy chief of supreme leader's office Vahid Haghanian (C) looks on in Tehran on August 3, 2017.

It is noted that no sitting president in Iran has failed to win a second term since 1981. Among those in attendance at the ceremony was former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who fell out of favour with the establishment and was notably barred from standing as a candidate.

Rouhani had won the presidential elections by a huge margin in May this year.

The law also imposed new sanctions on Russian Federation and North Korea.

On foreign policies, Leader underlined that "international interaction must not make us neglect enemy's plots as some of foreign states just seek destruction of Iran", he said.

"Today, Iranians have learned how to take measures concerning the enemy's plots and Iranian officials know how to deal with the enemy".

"My Administration will give careful and respectful consideration to the preferences expressed by the Congress in these various provisions and will implement them in a manner consistent with the President's constitutional authority to conduct foreign relations", Trump said in the statement. French energy giant Total defied USA pressure in July by signing a multi-billion-dollar gas deal with Iran.

The accord lifted the nuclear-related sanctions against Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on its nuclear activities.

Khamenei, who has the last word on all major issues of state, formally endorsed Rouhani as president in a ceremony broadcast live on state television on Thursday, after the pragmatist romped to re-election on May 19.

The bill seeks to ban anyone dealing with Iran's ballistic missile programme from entering the USA, and blocks transactions on properties held in the U.S.by people associated with the programme.

Ayatollah Khamenei made the remarks during the endorsement ceremony of the 12th Iranian Presidency, state-run news agency IRNA reported.

During the event, Rouhani received his validation edict from the Leader and was officially validated into the office for the second time.

The swearing-in ceremony for President Rouhani will be held at the Iranian parliament on Saturday, August 5.

His nearest conservative challenger Ebrahim Raisi got 38.5 percent of the ballots.
