Conley will avoid charges after a grand jury investigated allegations that he raped a woman a few weeks before the National Football League draft in April.

A grand jury in Cleveland has returned a "No Bill" on all possible charges against former Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley, meaning there will be no indictment.

Conley was accused of sexual assault following a situation at a Cleveland hotel.

"He had faith in the system", Kevin Spellacy, Conley's attorney, told NFL Network on Monday.

Conley said via a statement posted on Twitter he's "thankful that this burden has been lifted". The Oakland Raiders eventually took a chance on him with the 24th selection and they were rewarded on Monday. The 22-year-old Conley met with Cleveland police in May and provided a voluntary statement to police and a DNA sample. "She said she told Conley to stop". Although I was the target of malicious and false accusations, I do realize however that I coud've exercised better judgment and that there are still lessons for me to take away and grow from.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie said in May that he was confident Conley will be cleared of the rape allegation.

"This smile tell you anything?"

"We're going to let the (legal) process play itself out".

He seemed ready to move forward.

The Raiders 6-foot, 195-pound cornerback signed his rookie contract on Friday.

The Oakland Raiders made a bet on draft day.

"He could be a few days", McKenzie said.
