The duo's high profile and press tour created to promote the fight turned into a highly controversial and somewhat vile spectacle, with McGregor and Mayweather both accused of offering up racist and homophobic comments amid a series of expletive-laden exchanges. Or maybe fans are just waiting for the right time to buy, hoping the price will go down.

Original prices started at $3,500 and went up to almost $15,000 for "platinum" seats.

We're told it will be a 3 round fight for the very, very lightweight championship of the world.

BT Sport had been the favourites to show the fight due to their partnership with UFC but Sky Sports have confirmed they will broadcast the boxing bout.

Looking at his more recent boxing record, since the Victor Ortiz bout in September 2011, Floyd Mayweather has failed to win by knockout.

Sky Sports confirmed today that United Kingdom fans will pay £19.95 for the fight - while Irish fans will need to pay €24.95 for the event. "In this case, it seems the promoters overestimated what people would be willing to pay - and how many of those people willing (to) pay thousands would actually attend the event".

Many boxers have tried to be aggressive against Mayweather, get inside his defense, and land some punches to his head to take the momentum of the fight, but it's never worked - as his 49-0 record shows. The viewers will be charged $99 to watch the fight in HD (similar to the charges of viewing Mayweather-Pacquiao fight 2015 in HD).

Another sign that demand may be lacking - hotel prices for the weekend of the fight.
